I started going grey when I was at junior school and other girls would think it was funny to pluck out the grey hairs.  OK if doing one at a time but they tended to pull out clumps!

In my 30s I started tinting but it was never a roaring success.  Best results were when I did it myself at home with a semi-permanent but found there was a build up over time and my hair never really released some of the colour.  Had a disaster at a hair salon and ended up having my hair cut as short as possible to try and get rid.  It was awful, like having a really, really bad wig but not being able to take it off.  Since then, completely natural.  Luckily I used to be really dark haired and that hair colouring goes grey gracefully.  There is still a hint of dark hair underneath and I actually like the colour.

Mind you, some people see grey hair and either ignore you as being insignificant or talk down to you.  Nowt so strange as folk.

I think all grey/white hair in a short trendy cut is love yes  Am trying to grow my hair for the first time in YEARS and have just got through "the pain barrier" with it, so next week when I go no doubt I'll be horrified to see how grey my roots are! boxed in big grin

I had extremely short, white blonde hair when I was 16 and again at 19 and used the purple shampoo to keep it sparkly and not brassy. I liked it then, but don't want lighter hair right now. I've always coloured my hair (since I was 13) because my natural colour is a very mousy brown/blonde. I don't have good genes for grey, either (you are very lucky, Biggles!). Women in my family get the speckled grey, unless they are naturally blonde (like my sister roll eyes ).

I'm mousey brown too, so I highlight my hair - then the grey blends in and looks like it might be blonde big grin

I'll have to remember that Panda, I usually call it freaky. rofl She does have a few strands of grey at the front that appeared when she was having her cancer treatment but the rest hasn't changed at all. It's a bit weird isn't it? She's a weird woman though so I shouldn't be surprised. big grin

My Gran had natural ash blond hair and went grey at 74.

I have mouse hair and started going grey at 21. Mum was completely grey by 35, and originally hers was a fab blue steel grey, only recently turning white. Mine seems to be white from the get-go  roll eyes.

Got my grey hair coloured today and very pleased with it but I was asking A (my hairdresser) how best to get the build up of products out, seeing as I wash my hair every day and it sometimes doesn't feel properly clean when I wash it and she said to use a handful of shampoo on my DRY hair before I go under the shower and really work it into the dry hair.  When it's then "wetted" big grin it'll remove more of the residual product that's on it! Going to give it a go!  thumbs up

I used to use Neutrogena anti-residue shampoo, have you tried that YP?  It's good, widely available in supermarkets/chemists.

thumbs up will look out for that AK, thanks! Why do you say "used to use" ?   I used to use one called "St Ives" (I think) but I stopped being able to find it and a google search doesn't give me the one I'm talking about.  It was an orange coloured shampoo and I used to use it once a week or so and I got a great "clean" with it but haven't seen it for yonks on the shelves anywhere! sad

I've just got into a routine of using Toni & Guy products and forgot about Neutrogena until your post reminded me - a previous hairdresser used to tell me to buy a bottle of Neutrogena 'every other time' I bought shampoo.

I had a proper look after reading your post, and the fact that it is not easily available plus the price has racked up, makes me think they may have rebranded (sorry to mislead you!)  It now seems to be called "Neutrogena Clean" which claims to do the same job and is widely available.  I have bought this type quite recently with no problem - it's a much much cheaper too!!
